THE FOREST EDGE CO-ORDINATOR – MISS N MORTON

At the Forest School, we believe that development of Character enables our students to flourish in all areas of their lives. With this in mind, we run the Forest Edge programme with our Year 7 students.

The aim of this programme is to develop students with the personal attributes essential for dealing with all aspects of life. We want our students to strive to be the best they can be. The Forest Edge introduces students in greater depth to our Character strengths that we, as a school, have prioritised. These are:

Resilience
Respect
Ambition
Self-Discipline
Curiosity
Integrity

All students are introduced to The Forest Edge programme through their tutor time provision and weekly assemblies and are given the opportunity to log their activities and provide evaluations for each Character strength. We hope this will encourage them to get involved in as many extra-curricular opportunities as possible both in and out of school.

To achieve the Forest Edge, students will need to attain 12 credits across the 6 key Character strengths. Activities can be completed in and out of school. Each activity must be planned and evidenced in their Forest Edge booklet and then be signed off by their tutor.

EXAMPLES OF ACTIVITIES

Lead a warm-up in PE (Ambition)

Organise a fundraising activity for your tutor group (Respect)

Prepare and deliver a 2-minute talk on a topic of your choice (Curiosity)

Volunteer as a Student Council member (Integrity)

Achieve 97% attendance or above (Resilience)

Achieve no behaviour logs in a half term (Self-Discipline)

Students will be provided one designated Edge session each week within the tutor time programme and then they will have an additional Character session each week.

At the end of the Year, students and their tutors will celebrate successful completions of The Forest Edge programme. Students will then move on to having 2 Character sessions in their tutor time programme each week in Years 8 - 10.
