Swimming Success

Well done to all the boys that competed recently at the Sussex Schools Swimming Relay Championships at Pavilions in the Park.  This was a qualifying Event for the ESSA National Finals to be held at The London Aquatics Centre in November. Boys from all years competed in the event against the best schools in the County.  The event saw each team compete in both a 4x50m Medley relay and 4x50m Freestyle relay.

The Senior Boys Team swam very well, finishing in 7th and 9th place respectively.  With all four boys only 15 years old, competing against boys aged up to 19 from colleges around Sussex, this is a great achievement.  Nationally this places them 75th in the Medley and 72nd in the Freestyle out of the top 140 schools and colleges that entered.  These boys are ones to watch for the future.

The Intermediate Boys Team also swam well, finishing 7th and 5th respectively.  This places them Nationally 54th in the Medley and 55th in the Freestyle out of over 160 schools.

The Junior Boys A Team, comprising of 3 Year 8 boys and 1 Year 7 did exceptionally well.  At the Sussex Schools Competition, they finished 2nd in both events.  This currently ranks them 16th Nationally in both the Medley and Freestyle, out of 190 schools.  As a result, they have qualified to compete against the best 30 schools at the National Relay Championships at The London Aquatics Centre next month.  This is a fantastic opportunity for the boys to swim at the London 2012 Olympic Venue against the best swimming schools in the country.

The Junior Boys B Team, comprising mainly of Year 7’s, also swam well in what was for many of them their first competition swimming for the School.  Currently placed 130th Nationally in the Medley relay, out of 190 schools.  I’m sure that next year we will see them rise up the rankings.

A massive well done to all the boys and good luck to the Junior Boys A Team at the ESSA Finals.
